A solemn morning. A bright, sunny day. Unpretentious. A blue sky. Describes many days, but you know we're talking about one particular day. Sixteen years ago, over 6,000 people were injured and 2,996 innocent victims were killed, including 343 firefighters and 71 law enforcement officers. Millions of people were affected all over the world over a senseless act of terrorism. Today, we experience a different kind of devastation in our world...severe droughts to extreme rain, crumbling earthquakes to unrelentess hurricanes...and the list can be longer; we're sure of that. But what we must do is reaafirm the spirit of patriotism, service and community that we felt in the days and months that followed 9/11. Then, as in now, we must execute acts that will enrich our souls, help those around us, especially those in need, and this, in turn, will strengthen us, our community and our nation.
